Executive Leadership

John Piper

John Piper has been a licensed REALTOR® since 1969 on the suggestion of his father-in-law, a Sacramento county supervisor and real estate broker. After selling real estate for a year, John decided to go back and finish college. He later earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of California, studied Architecture at the University of New Mexico’s Graduate School of Architecture, and earned his Masters Degree in Urban and Regional Planning from San Jose State University.

It was while writing his Master’s thesis and working at the County Planning Department that John decided to go back to selling real estate. What attracted him most to real estate was the freedom to make his own decisions and the unlimited earning potential. During the next decade, John became one of the nationally ranked top producing agents of the CENTURY 21® system, averaging 60 clients a year. In 1988, it was time for greater challenges so John purchased his own CENTURY 21® franchise together with Jim and Margot Hessling. The three had worked together as agents for many years so the partnership was a natural.

As President of CENTURY 21 Champion, John’s focus is on a nurturing environment of productivity, professionalism, teamwork and community involvement. John is proud to lead a company that continues to thrive during times of radical change and increased competitiveness in the real estate industry. He attributes the Company’s success to his hard-working agents and highly effective management team.

John currently lives in San Jose’s Almaden Valley with his son, Chad. His son, Heath, is a top agent at CENTURY 21 Champion, and his daughter Lacey attends the University of California. He also has one grandchild, Elle Piper. Some of his favorite hobbies are hunting, fly-fishing, snow skiing, and traveling. piper@century21champion.com
Jim Hessling

In 1975, Jim Hessling began his real estate career at the age of 18 years old, the minimum age necessary to obtain your real estate license. While attending college he was able to launch his real estate career, along with his wife and high school sweetheart, Margot. During the years 1975-1979, he also studied for an International Business degree at San Jose State University because of his interest in global commerce and cultural diversity. It was this education that helped him better understand the diverse population that came to the Bay Area seeking homes to buy and live in. He also discovered and developed a keen understanding of developing a business through profit management, marketing and finance. His sales career skyrocketed as a top-producing agent as he averaged 60 homes sold per year for the next 14 years.

Jim and his wife, Margot, had always been Sales Associates with CENTURY 21® throughout their sales career. They were both firm believers in the strength of the CENTURY 21 brand name. Jim received his Broker’s license in 1989 and with Margot, opened their first office with partner, John Piper, as a CENTURY 21® franchise. By 1992, the San Jose location of CENTURY 21 Champion had grown to over 110 associates and was one of the largest single residential real estate offices in San Jose. jhessling@century21champion.com

She currently manages 4 full-time graphic designers and marketing specialists to assist our agents in developing, designing and printing all related marketing materials via print media, website and internet support.

Elise has been married to her husband, Russ Hume since 1990, helped raise two stepchildren, Jenni & Chris, now both adults and has a son, Ryan, born in 1995.
